Overwhelmed by Life? Let’s Make Cooking Simple, Creative and Fun Again

Sick of the same old meals or feeling stuck in the kitchen? Ditch the Recipes will show you how to

cook with confidence, creativity and total freedom - no recipes required (yes, even you!).

"I was held captive to a recipe and didn’t understand how or why to break free. NOW I’M FREE!"

Lou’s work is a game changer. The distinction of Lou and what she teaches isn’t about new recipes, it’s about the feeling of confidence and trusting your senses. This is information you can’t find anywhere else.

 - JAMIE
You’ve cooked dinner a thousand times, but somehow it still feels like a daily battle.

You’re not lazy.
You’re not hopeless.
You’re just exhausted.

Exhausted from the endless cycle of meal planning, recipe scrolling and trying to please everyone at the table.

Exhausted from spending hours cooking and cleaning, only to feel like it’s never enough. And you have to do it all over again tomorrow.

Exhausted from the mental load of figuring out what’s for dinner. Again.

Maybe you’ve followed all the rules. The recipes, the meal plans, the “quick and easy” hacks. But instead of feeling confident, you’re stuck in a rut, second guessing yourself and dreading 5pm every single day.

It’s not your fault. The system was never designed to make you feel confident in the kitchen. But here’s the good news: you don’t need to follow another recipe to feel like a kitchen boss.

What you need is to unlearn the noise and reconnect with your own rhythm, intuition and creativity. To open the fridge and know exactly what to make. To cook meals that are simple, delicious and uniquely yours - without the stress and unnecessary pressure. Because dinner can be both simple and delicious.

Inside Ditch the Recipes, you’ll learn:
→ How to trust your tastebuds and feel your way through a meal
→ How to combine flavours with confidence
→ How to make cooking simple, fun and yours
Because this isn’t just about dinner. It’s about reclaiming your time, your confidence, and your joy.

If you’re sick of recipes, bored of the same meals, and overwhelmed by the daily grind, Ditch the Recipes is here to help you rediscover the joy of cooking, without the stress.
This isn’t some wild experiment.

It’s a return to the way women have cooked for generations - before recipes, meal plans  and endless rules took over. They didn’t need a step-by-step guide to feed their families and neither do you.

And here’s the thing: you can’t mess this up.

You already have everything you need to make meals that are simple, delicious and uniquely yours.

Inside Ditch the Recipes, you’ll learn how to trust your instincts, work with what you’ve got and create meals that feel effortless. Without wasting time, money or ingredients.

Because this isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress.
It’s about reclaiming your confidence, your creativity and your joy in the kitchen.
Hey, I'm Lou!

YOUR FRIENDLY RECIPE REBEL AND THE INVENTOR OF THE KITCHEN COMPASS AND DITCH THE RECIPES.

I’ve been teaching women how to cook with soul (and zero perfectionism) for over 12 years.

Back when I first learnt to cook I was also sold on following recipes to the letter. I spent hours (yes hours) making corn fritters because I was so scared to miss a step and I'd keep forgetting what I'd just read . #unsustainable

My passion for health and good food kept me going. I cooked and cooked and cooked (some of my worst and best meals). I started to enjoy it so much that I decided to start feeding the busy women of the Sydney CBD.

AFTER CATERING A LOT OF MEALS FOR A LOT OF MOUTHS, I REALISED SOMETHING.

That meal planning and following recipes wasn't the only way to cook delicious meals. In fact, following recipes always took more time and cost more money

So I threw out the recipe rulebooks and uncovered what I call The Kitchen Compass.  I realised that once you understand the compass, you can ditch recipes and cook DELICIOUS meals over and over as I've done for close to 10 years now. And not just me, but my clients too.

INTRODUCING

Ditch the Recipes

A hands-on, guided cooking program designed to fit into your real, messy, busy life.

You’ll get the best of both worlds:
→ Self-paced modules delivered over 6 weeks, so you can learn at your own pace without feeling rushed.
→ Live, interactive classes spaced over 3 months, giving you the time and space to practice, ask questions and actually make this stick.
This isn’t just another cooking course. Ditch the Recipes is here to fill the gaps in your cooking skills, boost your kitchen confidence and free you from the stress of needing a recipe every single night.

Imagine opening your fridge, seeing what you’ve got and knowing exactly what to make - without Googling, second guessing or stressing.

Imagine saving time, money and mental energy by cooking with what you already have.

Imagine feeling confident, creative and in control in the kitchen - every single day

That’s what Ditch the Recipes is all about. It’s not just about cooking. It’s about reclaiming your time, your confidence and your joy.
So, what does ditching recipes even look like?
You might think intuitive cooking means winging it every night like some kind of mad scientist no plan, no clue, just “vibes.” Which, let’s be honest, sounds terrifying when you’re already tired, busy and over the dinner grind. You don’t have time to waste, energy to burn, or money to throw at another failed experiment.
Let’s be clear: this isn’t chaos. It’s rhythm. It’s about cooking from feel. Not just from a recipe.

Inside Ditch the Recipes, you’ll learn the 4 core parts of cooking:
→ Ingredient knowledge
→ Cooking methods
→ Flavour intuition
→ Kitchen confidence
Most women only ever get taught the first two and even that’s from rigid, perfectionist recipes. So they end up with a bunch of half-used ingredients, overcomplicated plans and no real clue how to bring it all together on a Wednesday night.

That’s where my Kitchen Compass framework comes in. It’s a reset. A way to reconnect with food, memory and flavour so you can create meals you actually want to cook (and eat).

It looks a little like this (you're in the middle, it's all about you):

Here’s where intuitive cooking thrives:

→ Weeknight dinners at 5.30pm
→ Quick weekday lunches
→ Meal prep that actually works
→ Satisfying breakfasts and snacks

It’s not about skipping flavour. It’s about skipping the fluff.

And no, we’re not ditching everything. Doughs, cakes, pickling? Keep your recipes for those (or freestyle if you’re feeling brave). We’re starting where the pain is loudest: lunch and dinner.

And when you start cooking like that, here’s what happens:

Because when you start cooking like this, here’s what happens:
→ You’ll know what to cook without overthinking it
→ You’ll stop wasting food and brain space
→ You’ll shop once and know you’ve got everything you need
→ You’ll spend less time stressed and more time present

This isn’t about cooking more.
It’s about cooking differently.
So it finally feels nourishing (for you, too).

Ditch the Recipes is right for you even if...

→ You can follow a recipe -
If you can follow a recipe, you’ve got skills. But if the thought of cooking without one makes you nervous? That’s where the gaps are and Ditch the Recipes is here to fill them.

→ You’re busy -
One of my clients this year worked 7am to 1am. (Not recommended, but yes, really.) And still, something magical happened in her kitchen. If you’re willing, I’m ready. I can’t cook for you but I promise this is the fastest route to saving time and eating well.

→ You’ve got kids -
I have two. And my passion is making sure the next generation gets a better food education than we did. That starts with you. Bring them to the classes if you need to. I know childcare isn’t always easy. Sure, it might mean a little more mess but it’ll also mean a lot more magic in the long run. (And I’ll try not to swear!)

→ You don’t hate recipes, you just don’t want to need them.
This isn’t a cult. There’s no dogma here. You’re allowed to love a good recipe. After this course, you might still use them. But it’ll be a choice, not a dependency. That’s the real freedom.
→ You really, really (really) suck at cooking -
You’re my favourite. Truly. You ask the best questions. The ones everyone’s wondering but too afraid to ask. Like: “Should I put the lemon in the chicken whole or halved?”

→ You’re a good cook... and also, you’re not - You can cook. You’re convincing yourself you don’t need this. But dinner’s still “niggly.” You can’t quite freestyle, your systems are shaky and you fall off the wagon more than you’d like. This course will firm that up. Without tightening you down.

→ You want to ditch recipes... but you’re scared. What if you fail? - Totally normal. On average, it takes my clients about 6 weeks to confidently go off-script. It’ll look different for everyone but the shift you’ll feel from this program will change the way you cook forever.

"I already knew how to cook - but I needed this."

I already ‘knew how to cook’. I had followed your journey for years and liked your quirky funny style and excellent recipes. I'm always looking for great healthy recipes and was particularly keen for some easy sauces and salad dressing options as I always make the same one and was so bored of it.

I found your course approachable, funny and light hearted and this made it so much fun to learn. You made us feel relaxed to ask questions and it felt good being part of a cooking community where you're all in the same boat. Kitchen Saucery (the older version of Ditch the Recipes) gave me new recipes but more importantly techniques and tips and a new way to think about meals and salad dressings.

Having a jar of the best tasting liquid gold makes lunchtime fun, easy and quick. I really believe that being able to cook and nourish yourself is a non-negotiable life skill and you’re not going to get those vital skills from google or a book.

- AMELIA

Ditch the Recipes is not for you if...

- You don't plan to show up to any of the live classes - The community cooking vibes are my favourite part of this work and it’s where you’ll get immense value. Replays are available, but I suggest you mark your diary and do your best to join live.
- You really don't want to ditch the recipes, ever - You can still join, but this is a recipe ditching course. If you’re not planning to give it a crack, you might be better off buying another recipe book.
What makes Ditch the Recipes so different?

This isn’t just another cooking course with 101 recipes to memorise. It’s a reset. A reframe. A return to cooking that actually makes sense for your life.

Here’s what sets it apart:

→ I teach you how to think in the kitchen. Not follow.
This is where you go to be empowered, not dependent.

 → Permission. Permission. Permission.
You’ll stop outsourcing your self-trust. You don’t need more recipes (you’ve got plenty already). What you need is permission to cook your way and the skills to back it up.

→ We start with rhythm, not rigid plans.
You’ll build intuitive systems that fit your life, not someone else’s template.

→ We work with what you’ve got.
Fridge full of random bits? Pantry looking sparse? You’ll learn how to make it work and make it delicious.

→ We uncover the “why” behind recipes.
Most programs teach you a set of recipes with a few variations but they never explain how the recipe actually works. That’s why you’re stuck when you run out of variations. Not here.

→ Self-paced + live elements, perfectly curated.
As you work through the self-paced modules and experiment at home, the live classes will help you unravel your past kitchen programming and step into the new you.

→ Real-time support and community.
We cook together, troubleshoot together and build kitchen confidence in real time.

→ It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing differently.
No meal plans. No food fads. Just smart systems, soulful skills and space to actually enjoy cooking again.

"Dinner tonight was simple, quick to make, healthy and super tasty. The whole fam; 3 year old, 8 month old and hubs devoured it. It wasn’t a recipe from anywhere."

This course is priceless. You are wonderful and your work has made my cooking head and heart soar. It’s changed my life on so many levels.

I used to feel guilty for not doing more. More recipes, more questions, more live lessons. Tonight, it hit me: I’m not just good at cooking - I’m great at it.

And I love it. Dinner was quick, healthy, and delicious. No recipe. Just instinct, a little creativity, and a reinvention of a past ‘fail’. The whole fam: 3 year old, 8 month old and husband devoured it. I even cooked with the baby on my hip. No stress. Just flow.

Your gems and philosophy have snuck into me. Without even realising, I’ve transformed. My pantry is full of jars and good stuff. Homemade ghee. Granola. Spices I actually use. A freezer full of yum. But more than that - it feels easy. It feels mine.

I don’t have to tick boxes. I just have to show up for myself and let food be part of that. You helped me see that.

The cost of doing nothing
It's one thing to stand here and tell you that ditching recipes is the way out of your kitchen overwhelm and time issues.

It's another to show you how much $$$$ you are potentially wasting each year due to food waste, mediocre confidence and average kitchen skills.

According to the EPA, the average household throws out 1 in 5 bags of groceries. That’s $2,500 a year - before 2022 inflation.

→ $2,600/year ($50/week): Emergency takeaway, pre-made meals or meal kits:

→ $1,300/year ($25/week): Buying out-of-season produce or overspending on convenience cuts (hello, chicken tenderloins). Or passing up specials and discounts because you don’t know what to do with the ingredients

Taking into account these additional expenses. It's likely this number is closer to $5k - $7k!

... which actually means this number is closer to $200,000!

(before saving or investing it)

And let’s not forget the time cost:

→ 26 hours/year spent searching for recipes
→ 78 hours/year spent referring to recipes while cooking

We all know how precious time is. You can't put a dollar value on it. And I know you could allocate this time to something much more meaningful. Eating muffins in the sun with your kids?
Do you really want to spend the next 30+ years dreading dinner? Or do you want to reclaim your time, your money and your confidence in the kitchen?
The Missing Ingredient in Your Kitchen
Sure, you’ve got some ingredient knowledge. You know a few cooking methods and maybe even some go to flavour combos. That’s all great, but it’s not the full picture.

The most overlooked skill in the kitchen? Your Kitchen Confidence and Intuition.
This is where recipes trip you up. They keep you looking outside of yourself. At the page, the screen, the step-by-step instructions. You forget to stop. Smell the onions cooking. Listen to the sizzle. Taste as you go.

Cooking isn’t just about following instructions. It’s about trusting yourself. And when you pair that trust with solid kitchen skills? BOOM. You’re unstoppable. You become the Kitchen Matriarch. The one who can whip up meals with ease, save time, save money, and actually enjoy the process.

That’s why Ditch the Recipes is in a class of its own. It’s not just about practical cooking knowledge. It’s about empowering busy women like you to reclaim your kitchen with confidence and intuition.
Does that mean recipes are the devil?

Recipes are not the devil. But they are treated like gospel. And this is the problem.

When you rely on recipes for every meal, you’re handing over your kitchen confidence and intuition. You’re stuck following someone else’s instructions instead of trusting yourself.

That’s where Ditch the Recipes comes in. It’s about bringing your cooking back into balance. Will you still use recipes after this program? Probably, yes. But here’s the difference: you won’t need them. You’ll use them as inspiration, not a crutch.

Here’s what ditching recipes can do for you:
→ Save time: No more wasting 30 minutes a week collating recipes, planning meals and writing shopping lists.
→ Save money: $5, $10, $20 or more a week just by shopping the seasons and specials first. Without needing a recipe to tell you what to do.

It’s not about banning recipes forever. It’s about giving you the skills and confidence to cook without them, so you can reclaim your time, your money and your joy in the kitchen.

"I no longer over complicate the process. I am creative, I can cook without a recipe, with ease and it’s fun! "

You sparked my love of cooking and have saved me so much time and money. I cook with ease, fun and a spring in my step. Worth the time and investment, ten fold.

FAQ's

What if I’m on a tight budget?
Perfect. This program is actually going to help you save money. Most people don’t realise how much they waste on unused ingredients, overbuying or throwing out leftovers. By the end of this course, you’ll know how to stretch your ingredients further, shop smarter and make the most of what you already have. It’s like giving your grocery budget a makeover.
What if I’m not a confident cook?
Perfect. This is literally why Ditch the Recipes exists. You don’t need confidence, you just need to be willing. We’ll start with simple shifts and easy wins, building toward bigger transformations. You’ll be amazed at how much you already know. We’re just here to fill in the gaps.
What if I like recipes?
Love that for you! Recipes aren’t the enemy. The problem is when they run your entire kitchen existence. You’ll learn when to lean on them (like for baking or exploring new cuisines) and when to trust yourself instead. The goal? To give YOU the power - not a PDF or Pinterest board.
What if I’ve tried things like this before and they didn’t work?
This isn’t like anything you’ve tried before. It’s not a meal plan or a system. It’s a skillset. You’ll learn how to think differently about food and cooking, so it actually fits into your life, not the other way around.
Will this work if I have dietary restrictions?”
Absolutely. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all plan. Whether you’re gluten free, dairy free, low FODMAP or just a picky eater, intuitive cooking puts you in charge. You’ll adapt what you learn to your preferences, family needs and budget.
What if I fall behind?
You can’t fall behind. This isn’t school. You’ve got 2 years of access to the course materials, so you can move at your own pace. The goal is to integrate these tools into your real life, gradually. No pressure here.
What diet do you follow?
In my house, we eat a bit of everything. Meat, veggies, fruit, dairy, ferments and yes, the occasional homemade bikkie or cake. I don’t subscribe to any strict diet, but as a breastfeeding mum of two, I focus on wholesome, nutrient-dense meals.
What if I'm terrible at following through?
No worries. This isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress. The program is designed to be flexible and forgiving. So you can dip in and out as life allows. Plus, the community and live calls are there to keep you motivated and supported.
Do I need lots of fancy ingredients or equipment?
Nope. This is about making the most of what you already have. If you can roast a veggie, boil water and use a knife, you’re good to go. You’ll actually learn to stretch ingredients further and stop wasting food (and money).
What if I’m cooking for picky eaters?
Perfect! This program teaches you how to adapt meals to suit different tastes and needs without making separate dishes for everyone. You’ll learn how to keep things simple and still keep everyone happy.
What if I don't like cooking?
Totally fine! This isn’t about turning you into a MasterChef contestant. It’s about making cooking less of a chore and more of a simple, stress-free part of your day. You might even surprise yourself and start to enjoy it (but no pressure!).
I’ve tried meal plans and systems before. How is this different?”
Because this isn’t a system. It’s a skillset. You’re not getting more rules or a rigid plan. You’re learning how to think about food, time, and flavour differently. This is about rhythm, flexibility and self-trust. Not another template to squeeze your life into.
How much time do I need each week?
About 90 minutes. Most weeks, you’ll watch a video (~20-30 mins) and apply a concept in your own kitchen. You’re cooking anyway. This just makes it lighter, easier and way more fun.
Do I get support?
Yes! You’ll have access to coaching and feedback during live calls and in our private Recipe Rebels Facebook community.
Do I get submit a refund request?
You’ve got 7 days from the start of the program to request a refund. Just email lou(at)lunchladylou.com.au with the required evidence.

Let’s be real. You’re not broken. You’re just done with following someone else’s rules for dinner. If the idea of cooking with confidence - on your terms - makes you feel like finally breathing out…

Let’s do this!

Imagine this...
While everyone else is still stuck googling “easy weeknight dinner” and second guessing their every move, you’re in a groove.

Cooking, eating, loving and repeating - with ease.

You walk through the door after a helluva day.
Tired, yes. But not overwhelmed.
Because you know dinner’s sorted.

You open the fridge and smile. There they are: those chicken thighs you tossed in lemon, garlic, garden herbs, a little cumin and sumac the other day.
They smell like a plan coming together.

You get them sizzling in a pan and as the scent starts to fill the kitchen, your shoulders drop a little.
You're not scrambling - you’re flowing.

You throw together a salad without overthinking it.
Grab the jar of homemade labneh (the one everyone raves about), a handful of marinated olives and that tahini maple dressing you whipped up on Sunday - still going strong.

You pile it all next to the spiced rice from two nights ago.
It’s colourful. Nourishing. Bloody delicious.

Dinner’s done in under 30 and you didn’t even have to think about it.
You’re proud. Relaxed. Even a little smug.

Because you didn’t follow a recipe.
You followed your rhythm.

"I forgot how to cook. Ditch the Recipes bought me back home"

I was a really great cook. I was the one who inspired Lou to cook! Then life got in the way and I forgot. Everything.I cooked a few bad recipes and started to believe I was the problem. I questioned myself and my abilities. My confidence tanked, I shut off my kitchen intuition. And cooking became hard, really hard. So hard, all I dreamed of was the day I hired my own private chef.Ditch the Recipes has helped me find my way back to myself in the kitchen. I’m cooking like I used to. I use recipes when I need but I love adding my flair to my meals, because I can.I'm cooking really delicious food. I'm nourishing myself and it feels like I'm in touch with the women who came before me in my lineage. It's a habit I'll happily make time for.
